South Korea's corona virus EXPOSURE says the discovery of the COVID-19 vaccine might be faster than the specified time. This is because the trial of the remdesivir vaccine made by Gilead Sciences found a bright spot.

Doctor Kim Woo Joo, who led research in South Korea on the COVID-19 vaccine and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MARS) case in 2015, is optimistic about the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine in the not too distant future.

He said evidence about the effectiveness of remdesivir, an antiviral experiment developed to treat Ebola as well as AbbVie's Kaletra, an anti-HIV drug; or other drugs may be done faster.

"If everything goes well, I hope that the effectiveness of these drugs will be scientifically proven in three to four months," said the Professor of Communicable Diseases at Korea's Guro University Hospital.

Launching from the South China Morning Post, Saturday (4/19/2020), Kim recently met with the President of the Korean Society, Thomas Byrne. He said that the Seoul University Hospital and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases were key players in making vaccines.

Doctor Anthony Fauci who led the research collaborated to test the redemsivir that emerged this week as a COVID-19 treatment option. The health and medical news site, STAT reports that one hospital in Chicago uses remdesivir to treat severe COVID-19 patients.

They see a rapid recovery in symptoms of fever and breathing. The good news, most patients are discharged from the hospital within one week. The University of Chicago Medicine recruited 125 positive COVID-19 people into the Gilead phase-3 clinical trial. They give patients remdesivir infusion every day.

From the study of these patients, 113 people had severe symptoms. The successful trial of the COVID-19 vaccine caused Gilead's share price to surge by almost 15 percent in trading after work hours. Their shares finally closed with a 9.7 percent increase higher on Friday, April 17, 2020.
